
We’re excited to announce that applications for our Breaking the Box Retreat is now open. A week-long residency where early career Deaf, Disabled and Neurodivergent creatives will have the opportunity to upskill in their practice!
We have 12 paid positions on the residency, where successful participants will be provided with accommodation and travel costs.

With leading practitioners such as Rebecca Wilson, Ruth Stringer, Kaite O’Reilly and Ben Glover. See below for a more detailed schedule of the week.
Alongside this, we’ll be hosting drop in Twilight Sessions throughout the week for artists to quiz industry professionals such as Taking Flight Directors Elise Davison and Louise Ralph, Pontio Director Osian Gwynn, and Stammermouth founder Nye Russell about their practice and how to get projects started.
There will be BSL/ENG interpreters and a wellbeing team available at all times. We aim to accommodate any additional access needs.
Applications close at 5pm on the 24th of March. And we will let you know if you’ve been successful by the 27th of March.

Am I disabled enough?
If you feel like you have faced barriers to entry at any point in your life, or you identify as being Deaf, Disabled or Neurodivergent, then this opportunity is for you.
What is an Early Career Creative?
We define an Early Career Creative as someone either thinking of entering the creative industry or has between 0-3 years of work experience within the industry.
Do I have to be Welsh?
We welcome any artist that is based in Wales, is Welsh, or has a connection to Wales.
How much will I be paid?
We will pay all successful applicants a fee of £500 for attending the retreat alongside contributions to travel and accommodation.
Do I have to do the whole week?
If you are successful in gaining a place, you are expected to attend all sessions.
