Symposia
Since 2013 we have been running symposium events open to arts professionals from across Wales & beyond.
Our first symposium, Breaking Out of the Box, was an introduction to arts practitioners using inclusive practice. Talks & workshops were led by leading lights in the disability-led theatre world.
Breaking Out of the Box 2 (in partnership with Creu Cymru) focussed more specifically on increasing accessibility to theatre & the arts both for D/deaf & Hard of Hearing audiences & artists.
BOTB 3 concentrated on nurturing, developing & welcoming blind & Visually Impaired audiences & creatives.
BOTB 4 asked “Wales; A Diverse Nation?”. We wanted to respond to & interrogate questions which had been arising in the arts world in Wales during the previous year surrounding under-representation in the theatre here, & how we unearth the reasons for this, or the barriers to becoming more welcoming & inclusive for venues & theatre producers.
Speakers have included: Jamie Beddard, Michele Taylor (Director for Change, Ramps on the Moon), Ben Pettitt-Wade (Hijinx), Daryl Beeton (then of Kazzum), Danny Braverman, Robert Softly-Gale (Birds of Paradise), Amanda & Wendy (Red Earth Theatre) Janna (Solar Bear), Maria Oshodi (Extant), Dr Louise Fryer (VocalEyes), Robin Bray-Hurren (tactile access material consultant),
If you’d like to suggest a focus topic or to partner on or host a future event, get in touch.
