Taking Flight Announces dates for new CPD Training Programme
We are announcing the dates for our next block of CPD accredited training programmes in Deaf and Blind Awareness.
Specifically designed so that freelancers and organisations are equipped to work with Deaf and Blind people in all settings, be it colleagues, service users or customers.
The programme includes 2 certificates split across 3 modules.
- Module 1: Introduction to Working Inclusively*
- Module 2: Blind Awareness Intensive
- Module 3: Deaf Awareness Intensive
*Trainees must complete module 1 before undertaking module 2 or 3
The first block of training sessions will be hosted at Theatr y Ffwrnes in Llanelli.
Module 1: Monday the 1st of June 2026
Module 2: Monday the 15th of June 2026
Module 3: Monday the 22nd of June 2026
Can’t make all three sessions? Don’t worry you can spread all 3 modules across a period of 12 months.
Our next block of training sessions are in Capel Salem, Cardiff in late September.

Module 3: Friday the 2nd of October 2026

Deaf Awareness Certificate (Modules 1+3): £200
Blind Awareness Certificate (Modules 1+2): £200
Both Certificates (All Modules): £300
You are able to purchase now and attend any block of training within 12 months of your first training session.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What will I learn?
In Module 1, you will learn the basics of working inclusively, covering topics of access riders, spoon theory, and the different models of Disability and the type of language we use when talking with and about disabled people.
Module 2 will go in depth about the different kinds of sight impairments and how they affect people differently, how to guide, and how to audio describe yourself and your surroundings for a blind or visually impaired person.
Module 3 will go in depth about Deaf culture, differences between BSL and English, and best practices when working with Deaf people.
What is different about this training?
This training is delivered by people with lived experience and includes hands on activities to facilitate with the learning.
What do you mean start now, finish later?
We want to be flexible with our offering and understand taking 3 days off work in one fell swoop is difficult for many people. These courses have been designed so you can begin your training during this block of modules and pick up where you left off in our next block of modules.
When are your next block of modules?
We can’t confirm 100% currently, but we know that they will be in Autumn 2025 and Spring 2027. If you want to sign up to a “Start now, finish later”, we will contact you directly to notify when and where the next block of trainings will be.
How much is it going to cost?
For 1 place on a course, it is £200. For 1 place on 2 courses, it’s £300.
What access provisions are there?
For all sessions, there will be BSL/English interpreting, a breakout chill zone and everywhere will be wheelchair accessible. If you have any further requirements, please email admin@takingflighttheatre.co.uk so we can provide accommodations to you.
Is catering included?
We will provide Tea and Coffee making facilities, but you will have to provide your own lunch.
What if I can’t make module 1 but can attend modules 2 and 3?
As module 2 and 3 are designed to be an in-depth view of working with Deaf and Blind people, it is important that you understand the basics covered in module 1. Don’t worry, there will be more training available to book onto later this year.
