Taking Flight is an inclusive theatre company based in Cardiff, making professional productions with Deaf, disabled, blind / partially sighted, neurodivergent and non- disabled performers. We work within three languages: BSL, Welsh and English, and all our work features embedded access, such as captions and Audio Description. We run Wales’s only youth theatre for Deaf and Hard of hearing young people and we’re a recent recipient of multi-year funding agreement with Arts Council of Wales, so it’s an exciting time to get involved with our work!
A trustee is a person who takes care of the work of a charity, making sure it meets its charitable aims and carries out everything it does in a legal and professional way.
Trustees have meetings every few months to check on, plan and discuss the work of the charity.
Trustees do not get paid for being trustees, but they do get expenses for any travel etc.
We currently have 9 trustees on the Taking Flight board including two co-chairs and we are looking for the right person to take us forward.
We actively encourage Deaf and disabled applicants. Our board meetings are delivered in English and interpreted into BSL.
We are especially looking for trustees with:
- Previous experience of being a trustee or chair/ co-chair of a charitable organisation
- Interest/ understanding of the Arts sector in Wales
- Passion for inclusivity and diversity
- The ability to lead on Legal or HR issues.
- Lived experience of being Deaf/disabled or Neurodivergent.
But whoever you are and whatever your experience, the thing that’s most important is enthusiasm, energy and the desire to support and make a real difference to the work of Taking Flight as we move forward!
To apply, please contact us in way you feel most comfortable. You can send a CV, or you can write a letter, make a video or record an audio file. You can use BSL, Welsh or English.
Send it to: louise@takingflighttheatre.co.uk
